NEOM, Qiddiya, the Red Sea Project, and other giga-projects are being built smart from day one. Full IEC 61850 substation automation is the baseline specification.

Legacy substation modernization
Existing TEPCO equipment can be retrofitted with IEC 61850 protection relays and RTUs without full replacement. The most cost-effective path from legacy SCADA to modern automation.
Field nodes (substations, kiosks, RMUs, and renewable plants) terminate in an RTU or IED and report over a secured wide-area network to the control centre's SCADA and DMS. Every vertical link is data; IEC 60870-5-104 and 61850 carry it.
